Scientific name: Astronotus ocellatus.

Common names: Tiger Oscar, Marble Cichlid, Velvet Cichlid.

Native to: South America — Amazon basin and associated rivers (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Guyana, etc.).

Appearance: Dark body (brown/black) with bold orange/red marbling/markings, especially for the “tiger” variety. Juveniles have more striking banding/patterns which soften as they age.
