according to the Economic Survey 2025–2026, there is a 10–20% chance that a Global Financial Crisis like 2008 could repeat.
But first, let’s understand what actually happened in 2008.
Would you believe it if someone said that the world’s biggest banks could collapse in a single day?
That’s exactly what happened in 2008.
In the USA, there was a massive housing boom, and banks blindly gave out loans.
No salary? Loan approved.
No job? Loan approved.
Even people with bad credit scores got home loans easily.
But the people who took these loans couldn’t repay their EMIs.
As a result, Lehman Brothers, a bank with 158 years of history, went bankrupt.
Stock markets crashed.
Companies shut down.
Lakhs of people lost their jobs.
So, because of some conditions we see today, the Economic Survey says that there is a chance of such a financial crisis happening again — but only 10–20%.
The lesson is simple:
Easy money looks attractive…
